Choosing Essentials Slippers correctly

Where, what, which sole, which packaging: the buying guide to the Essentials range

A slipper of natural fibre raises different questions than one of non-woven fabric: which sole carries on which floor, what happens to cork and straw when the floor is wet, and how a pair reaches the room hygienically. This guide leads from eleven models to the two a hotel needs.

THE GUIDES

Three questions, three answers

Each guide answers one question that buyers ask us about slippers of natural fibre. Sizes, shape and quantity per room are covered in the general hotel slipper guides; here it is about what the Essentials range does differently.

All models with picture, sole and pairs per case are on the page Essentials Slippers for Hotel and Spa.

THE RANGE AT A GLANCE

Eleven models, three components, one principle

The Essentials range consists of room models and wellness models. What a model can do is written in its three components: upper, sole and packaging. Anyone who knows the three reads every product page in a minute.

The upper

Piqué cotton for Pinar, Palmira, Havanna and Camellia, jute for Goa, cotton for Terra and Nature-Piquet, viscose for Lotus, Taxus, Gallura and Babaco. Piqué and terry feel like a towel, jute has a visible texture, viscose drapes softly with a slight sheen. All uppers are unprinted; the hotel's logo comes as embroidery or on the bag.

The sole

Sugarcane is firm and quiet, cork springs and tolerates moisture, coconut fibre is grippy and visible, the cardboard insert is what turns jute, cotton and viscose into a shoe. In the spa a profiled EVA sole lies under the footbed of cork or straw; only Corteccia is all cork. The sole decides where the slipper is worn, not the upper.

The packaging

Every room model lies individually in a paper bag, every wellness model in a paper band or with loop pin and flax tape. The case is the outer packaging without inner film; it goes into the waste paper after unpacking. What remains in plastic is stated on the product: the studs on Nature-Piquet, the EVA sole of the wellness models, the loop pin.

A word of honesty: No model in the range is built for room and spa at the same time. A hotel that wants to equip both needs two models, and that is exactly the strength of the range: a quiet sugarcane slipper in the room, a cork model at the pool.

THE WAY TO THE ORDER

From eleven models to two, in four steps

A hotel rarely needs more than one room model and one spa model. Four questions lead there, and for each there is a guide that answers it in full.

Hotel slippers in paper bags and cork toe-post sandals with a paper band on a linen room shelf

1. Where is the slipper worn?

Room only: a model with sugarcane, coconut fibre or cardboard insert. Room and spa: a room model plus a wellness model. Spa only: Corteccia if the hotel wants upper and sole of cork, otherwise Cork Sandal or Bamboo with a profiled sole.

2. How does the hotel feel?

Towel-soft and classic white: piqué cotton. Visibly natural fibre, with texture: jute or coconut fibre. Flowing and light: viscose. The upper is the surface the guest sees and touches first; it should match the room, not the catalogue.

3. Which lengths does the hotel carry?

The room models come in one length that fits most adults. Hotels that want separate ladies' and men's lengths take Nature-Piquet in 27.5, 28.5 and 29.5 cm, and in the spa Sandal Bamboo in three lengths, one of them for children. Which distribution a hotel needs is covered in the guide on hotel slipper sizes.

4. How many pairs per month?

Rooms times arrivals per month times pairs per arrival, divided by the pairs per case. A hotel with 50 rooms and twelve arrivals per room and month has 600 arrivals; at two pairs per room that is 1,200 pairs, at 250 pairs per case five cases a month. The quantity calculator in the hotel slipper guide works this out with occupancy and guests per room.

The hotel's logo

On the paper bag as a single-colour print, on the upper as embroidery. The bag travels with the bag into the bin, the embroidery with the guest back home. The minimum quantity is stated per model on the product page under personalisation; the process is the same as for any hotel slipper: send the logo, approve the draft, approve the sample photo, then the series runs.

Two models as samples: A hotel switching to natural fibre for the first time orders one room model with a sugarcane sole and one wellness model with a cork footbed as samples. Within a week in the hotel both show whether feel, floor and housekeeping fit together.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about the Essentials range

What purchasing and housekeeping ask before the first order.

Which Essentials models are closed, which are open?+
All room models are closed: Pinar, Palmira, Havanna, Camellia, Goa, Terra, Lotus, Taxus, Gallura, Babaco and Nature-Piquet. The wellness models are open or toe-post: Corteccia, Cork Sandal, Cork Pool Sandal, Cork Rio, Bamboo in three shapes and Sandal Bamboo. The range has no open shape for the room, because it gives less warmth there.
Does the one-size length fit every guest?+
Most adults, yes; the room models are cut to one length that spans from a ladies' to a men's foot. Hotels with many tall guests or with families take Nature-Piquet in three lengths or keep Sandal Bamboo in a children's length in the spa.
Can Essentials slippers and Classic slippers be mixed in the same hotel?+
Yes, and many hotels do: Essentials in the room, a Classic EVA model at the pool, or the other way round. Housekeeping keeps the pairs apart by case and packaging, paper bag against film, and places them in different locations.
How does the guest recognise that the slipper is made of natural fibre?+
By the paper bag, by the visible fibre and by the sole he holds in his hand when putting it on. A hotel that wants to say so explicitly adds a card or prints a sentence on the bag. Nothing is written on the slipper itself, unless the hotel has its logo embroidered.
Can the guest take the Essentials slipper home?+
Yes, it belongs to the guest, not to the room. For the quantity this changes nothing: the calculation is per arrival, not per night, and a pair that leaves is replaced anyway. In the spa this does not apply; there the pair goes back with the bathrobe.

Test natural fibre in your own room?

Number of rooms and intended use are enough; you receive a proposal with case quantities and, on request, a sample pack.
