Cork and straw in wet areas:
what a spa slipper has to withstand
In the spa water stands on the floor, the guest comes out of sauna or pool and steps barefoot into the slipper. Non-woven soaks through, sugarcane does not like standing water. Cork and straw take it. This guide explains how the wellness models are built, where they hold and how they dry.
Footbed, sole, bridge: three parts, three tasks
A spa slipper is not a room slipper in a different fabric. Each of its three parts has to do with water.
Footbed
- Cork: 2 mm on EVA or 10 mm as a whole sole
- Straw: feels dry even on a wet floor
- Takes up moisture and releases it again
- Does not get cold on cold stone
Sole
- 5 mm or 8 mm EVA, profiled
- Holds on tiles, wooden deck and pool edge
- With Corteccia all cork, 10 mm
- Chlorine and salt do nothing to it
Bridge
- Suede look, mesh or straps
- Open shapes dry faster
- Toe-post sandals stay on even with a wet foot
- Hook-and-loop on Bamboo Velcro for every foot width
All cork, cork on EVA, straw on EVA
Seven models, three constructions. Which suits which spa depends on how wet the floor gets and whether the property wants to do without plastic in the spa altogether.
All cork: Corteccia
Upper and sole of cork, 10 mm thick, open or as a toe-post sandal. Cork tolerates water, dries off on the lounger and is the only spa model without plastic. On very smooth, wet stone the cork sole has less profile than EVA, in the relaxation room and on wood it is at home.
Cork footbed on EVA: Cork Sandal, Cork Pool Sandal, Cork Rio
2 mm cork on an 8 mm profiled sole. The cork sits at the foot, the profile on the floor. Cork Pool Sandal is built for the pool edge, Cork Rio has a bridge of mesh that dries quickly, Cork Sandal comes with white or brown straps of cotton and polyester.
Straw footbed on EVA: Bamboo and Sandal Bamboo
A footbed of straw on a 5 mm profiled sole, bridge in suede look. Bamboo open, Bamboo Velcro with hook-and-loop, Bamboo Cross crossed, Sandal Bamboo as a toe-post sandal in three lengths. Straw feels dry even when the floor is not, and these models are the lightest of the range.
EVA is a plastic. The profiled sole of six of the seven models is made of EVA. We write it on every item. A property that wants to do without plastic in the spa altogether chooses Corteccia.
Drying, changing, storing
A spa slipper is handled differently from a room slipper. Three routines housekeeping knows.
Drying
After the round the pairs stand open, not stacked. Cork and straw release moisture overnight, mesh and straps dry within a few hours. Closed shapes dry more slowly, which is why the wellness range has none.
Changing
In the spa the slipper is tied to the guest, not to the room. It is handed out with the bathrobe and taken back with it. For day guests a new pair lies at the lounger, the used one goes into the waste as in the room.
Storing
Cork and straw like dry storage. The cases do not stand next to the sauna and not on the floor of the linen room. 100 to 130 pairs per case, Sandal Bamboo in children's length 200.
