What PU leather is, and what it is not
PU leather is not leather. It is a backing material with a polyurethane coating into which the grain is embossed. For a hotel room this is the more practical choice on several points and the poorer one on a single point. Both belong on the table before you order.
What speaks for PU leather
- Closed surface, stains do not soak in
- Wipe clean, housekeeping needs no special product
- Every piece looks like the next, no hide variation
- No animal material, suitable for vegan house concepts
- Clearly cheaper than a line in real leather
What you need to know
- PU leather ages, it does not develop a patina like leather
- Standing moisture and high humidity attack the coating
- Leather care destroys it, more on that below
- Deep scratches cannot be polished out
- It is fitting measured in years, not in decades

Four steps for housekeeping
Caring for PU leather is explained faster than caring for leather, and the most important point is a prohibition. You can take these four steps into your cleaning plan as they stand.
Dust daily
A dry or slightly damp lint free cloth. Dust is the abrasive that dulls the surface over the years.
Wipe damp
A soft cloth with clear water, then rub dry immediately. Standing moisture is the main enemy of the coating.
Take stains at once
The surface is closed, so nothing soaks in while it is fresh. Once dried it turns into rubbing work, and rubbing harms.
Check twice a year
Look at edges and corners, that is where a coating comes off first. Replacing one item is cheaper than refitting a room.
Allowed
- Clear water, a soft lint free cloth
- A mild soap solution for heavier soiling
- Rub dry at once, never leave it damp
- A dedicated synthetic leather care product, if your house keeps one
Forbidden
- Leather grease, leather oil, leather balm, wax. They detach the PU coating
- Cleaners with a high alcohol content
- Abrasives, scouring sponges, vigorous rubbing
- A permanent place in the wet shower niche
The mistake that costs the line: Synthetic leather gets treated like leather. After a few months the coating comes off, and nobody connects it with the care. One sentence in the housekeeping instructions prevents that. On request we supply it as a short sheet to pin up.
What the service life really depends on
Putting a number of years on a synthetic leather would be dishonest, because two houses get very different results from the same article. What sets the range, on the other hand, is known and can be steered.
The single biggest factor. Standing wet and high humidity make polyurethane brittle. So bathroom yes, shower niche no, and rub dry after wiping.
The second biggest, and the avoidable one. Oils and waxes damage the coating. A wrong product acts faster than ten years of use, and no care product stops the ageing.
The coaster at the bar ages faster than the guest folder, and edges show it first. Single items can be reordered, regular cleaning slows the process down considerably.
What this means for your budget: Plan this line as fittings with a replacement cycle, not as a purchase for the life of the house. Because single positions can be reordered and the colour stays the same, later you replace the one item that suffered instead of the whole room.
Carton sizes, minimum quantities and lead time
This line is made to order, it is not held in stock. That is not a drawback but the condition that allows your logo to be produced along with it. Plan it early and you get exactly the room you drew.
From two cartons we deliver carriage free across the whole of Europe, by UPS from our central warehouse in Germany. For a single carton 50.00 euro applies.
Regular production from the order date. Early enough for a refurbishment, not for a reorder on Thursday. Please allow for it in the project plan.
The minimum quantities are around one hundred pieces per article, which equals fitting out a house with one hundred rooms. The coaster starts at 500 pieces.
